Who's that girl....

This is a commission I'm working on of the XME bad girls. This is the first rough drawing for it and the tight rough that I transferred to an 11x17 board. I'll also post the next steps as I finish them.

I posted this on Facebook the other day and it received a lot of attention and a few curious people asking who they were. I'm sure everyone coming to this blog recognizes them so that's not an issue. I'm also sure many of you have heard me discuss the fact that many of the XME characters were based on actual people - celebrities to one degree or another. I then asked if anyone could guess what celebrities these were based on ...and I was surprised no one really tried to guess. So I even offered up a clue: One's from an old Sci-Fi show (I think BBC), one was an actress in 2 iconic movies and the other was based on a popular singer.
Of course, you need to keep in mind when XME was on TV, but at least one of the celebrities is still somewhat in the public eye.
Anyone willing to venture a guess?

Just to sweeten the pot I'll do a sketch for the winner of any XME character they choose and post it on this Blog.

And just for fun here's another commission I'm working on as well of Rogue and Gambit.

I'll guess that Wanda is based on Jacqueline Pearce (Servalan) from Blake's Seven?

I always thought Rogue looked like Sandra Bullock, but she's been in more than two iconic movies.

Aww, now I wish I was more up on my celebrity and culture facts. All I know is that the dance sequence from "Walk on the Wild Side" was based on some bits from Buffy the Vampire Slayer... or was that the dancing in "Spyke Cam"? Regardless, I'm eager to add this new bit of trivia to my file-o-Evo!

Hmmm...it looks like I'm going to have to give another clue or two...

Rogue was based on an actress from a sci-fi series in the late 1990's and early 2000s. I believe it was a BBC.

Wanda was based on an actress who had two iconic roles. One was when she was pretty young (1985) and the other was a film that was made in 1996. She still acts and also does some voices for cartoons.

Tabitha was based on a very popular singer of a group (and she also did some solo work) who is still around though I haven't heard much from her lately. A second singer came along that seemed to fit her even more personality-wise shortly after her initial design was approved that I also leaned on quite a bit. So I guess if you pick either singer I'll give you points.

Neither of the names Jim suggested are correct and the Buffy dance was used in Spyke Cam and not Walk on the Wild Side.

Ooooh, I still don't have much of a clue, but after spending some time cross referencing some massive lists, I would put my wild guesses at:

Rogue: Michelle Ryan
Wanda: Alyssa Milano
Tabby: Christina Agulara

Wanda is Fairuza Balk!

Unknown said...

Good guesses Blaze, but not right. What was Michelle in back then?

Jim is right about Wanda. She should have been easy considering the part she played in the Craft.

One down and two to go...
Rogue will be the hard one.

Just to make it fair you don't need to get all 3 to get to call out a sketch. Everyone who guesses one of them right will get to choose.
That means I'll do 3 sketches if it's 3 different people.

Blaze Rocket said...

Oh, WOW! Fairuza Balk is friggin' georgous! Her name never even came up on my list of possibilities... clearly I need to refine my searching methods! Wikipedia said she was in Dr.Who, but I must confess, I've never seen the show-- more out of a lack of time, than a lack of desire.

I'm going to keep thinking on it! Seriously, though, Ms Balk is fabulous.

Blaze Rocket said...

Bah, so long as I'm here, I might as well have another guess--

Tabby's not Gwen Stafani, is she? Gwen always makes me think of Tank Girl, who, in tern, makes me think of Tabby...

Is Rogue Sabrina Lloyd from Sliders?

Blaze Rocket said...

Ooh, she's got the chin dimple, that's good guess! Though to be fair, Sliders isn't BBC, so that would explain why she never came up on my list ^_~

You are ridiculously good at this game, Jim!

Steve said he wasn't sure about the BBC part.

Blaze Rocket said...

Yeah, but I was using it as a narrowing factor anyway. My loss ^_^

Unknown said...

Bingo. Gwen Stefani was the original inspiration for tabby and shortly there after I used Pink!

No, Sabrina Loyd wasn't the girl Rogue was based on. I should clarify my uncertainty about the show and the BBC connection. I never saw the show myself, but I believe it was aired on the BBC . It was a co-production Between Britain, Canada and Germany.

You two both have a sketch coming so think about who you'd like.

Unknown said...

One more thing...the chin cleft was not part of the original actress's features...
I added that to make sure there was an additional difference between Rogue and Jean

Jim McClain said...

Xenia Seeberg from Lexx?

Unknown said...

Double Bingo! I thought that one would never be guessed. You watch more TV than I do obviously.
Boyd Kirkland watched the show (or maybe he just liked the actress) and suggested I use her.

Jim McClain said...

Never saw the show in my life. I just have, as my wife put it, "mad research skills."

Unknown said...

You have mad Google skills indeed.

So, Jim can pick to characters and Blaze can pick one and I will try to sketch them up and post them sometime next week.

Thanks for playing!

Haah! That show actually came up when I polled the Oscar party I was at tonight for their guesses (I hang out with other comic and animation nerds :B). Well done!

Wanda's always been one of my favourites, so I suppose I'll pick her ^_^ Thanks so much :D

My daughter's favorite character is Jean Grey, so I have an idea. How about a sketch of Jean as she appeared on the show along with a possible look for her as Phoenix? I read that there was a thought of having her become Phoenix if the show had continued.

Hello Steven, I love your work.. ^_^
And .. and I really wanted to make a request. I'd like to see Gambit in X-Men Evolution without uniform, without the mask. How would it be? Would you show me? Show all fans? Sorry for my bad English, I am not American and I'm still studying English.
Thank you for your attention. =)
